Summer Course on Disaster Behavioral Health in Preventing Disaster-Related Social Issues

course

Disasters, both natural and man-made, not only cause physical destruction but also trigger significant social issues that can persist long after the initial event. These disaster-related social issues include displacement, poverty, social conflicts, mental health crises, and the breakdown of community structures. To address these challenges, the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Diponegoro is organizing the Summer Course on Disaster Behavioral Health in Preventing Disaster-Related Social Issues, an intensive program designed to enhance participants' understanding and skills in mitigating the psychosocial impacts of disasters. This program will explore how natural disasters can escalate into social disasters, exacerbating inequalities, increasing vulnerability, and disrupting societal stability. Participants will engage in in-depth discussions and practical exercises on key sub-themes, including but not limited to: - Disasters in Indonesia, including social disasters - Essential health care during disasters - Disaster behavioral health management - Disaster and food/nutrition security - Morbidity and mortality during and post-disaster - Mitigation and adaptation strategies to prevent social disasters - Trauma healing and mental health awareness Through interactive lectures, case studies, and real-world simulations, this program will provide insights from experts in medicine, nursing, psychology, public health, and disaster management. Participants will learn how to develop effective strategies for disaster preparedness, response, and recovery, with a special focus on preventing social disasters resulting from natural catastrophes. This summer course offers a unique opportunity for students, academics, healthcare practitioners, policymakers, and humanitarian workers to collaborate on innovative solutions that enhance community resilience. By joining this program, participants will be better equipped to address the behavioral health challenges of disaster-affected populations and contribute to a more disaster-resilient society. This will be a transformative learning experience and help build stronger, more adaptive communities in the face of disaster!
